Costa Paradiso

This coast's name comes from the marvellous scenery of this central - northern part of the island. There are 8 kilometres of red rocks shaped by the wind and transformed into interesting sculptures that can be seen from the transparent waters of the Sardinian sea, divided by small bays that are surrounded by the green Mediterranean vegetation that reaches the hinterland.

One of the most beautiful beaches on the island is Li Cossi, bordered by rocky walls of yellow-pink granite that overhang and close in around the wide beach of fine, light-coloured sand.

Heading south, under the lee of the Tinnari mountain, you'll come across Tinnari beach, formed by a doubled arch and surrounded by big rocks that look like animal sculptures or strange figures that take on a reddish colour, depending on the direction of sun's rays. The sea-water here is a transparent emerald-green colour and allows one to admire the beauty of the seabed; not only a paradise for snorkelling enthusiasts.

The coastline is a rocky one with many of the cliffs and rocks shaped by the pounding of the sea and wind over thousands of years – the imagination can go wild visualising the rock formations, which often resemble faces, minimal shapes and even gargoyles produced by nature. The pink granite rocks take even a rosier glow during the magnificent sunsets over the sea.
The terraced bungalows and large detached villas are in various settings. One can choose to be near the sea or for space, peace and quiet, especially during July to mid August, back in the hills overlooking the sea. So large is the estate that the four hundred odd villas blend mostly into the landscape except near to the sea and beach. Outside July/August the area is very quiet.
An ideal location to suit most families, there are several restaurants and a small disco bar. There’s a diving school, plus a separate tennis club complete with several swimming pools. This is a private club, but weekly membership is possible.
Bike, canoe, pedalo and scooter rental are also available. There is a small shopping square for the basics, two bars and several take away rosticcerias offering suckling pig, chicken and kebabs.
There is only one main beach of fine sand, and this is definitely not for the infirm being a walk of about 15 minutes along a track over the rocks above the sea. There are a few little pocket - handkerchief sized beaches.
However, you will have a car – and Isola Rosso, about 10 minutes drive away, offers several superb sand beaches, a boating marina, four or five restaurants and a perfect example of a 13th century watch tower built by the Saracens 12 minutes drive.
In the opposite direction is Vignola Mare, which offers two large sand beaches overlooked by several hotels and restaurants. Easy to park and good access to the beach.

The Community

There is a small tourist village called Costa Paradiso situated not very far from Castelsardo and close to the small centres of Costa Tinnari and Isola Rossa. It is a complex of villas or multi-family summer houses with swimming-pools and yards designed to fit in with the natural landscape. The majority of the houses is situated only few meters from the sea. There are a lots of bars, restaurants, supermarkets, shops, health care centres, discos, piano bars and tennis courts.Sporting activities are represented mainly by the aquatic ones: surfing, diving and sailing but tennis and horse riding too.

Costa Paradiso can be reached by taking a ferry that stops at the harbours of Olbia, Golfo Aranci or Porto Torres. From mid-June, there are express ferries that arrive in Sardinia in only a few hours. For those who do not wish to spend a lot of time in voyage, we recommend choosing air travel to Alghero or Olbia.

From the airport, it only takes about 50 minutes by car, along panoramic coastal roads, to reach the marvellous Costa Paradiso and find oneself in a true paradise.

Costa Paradiso is situated between the sleepy beach resort of Isola Rosso (9km) and Vignola a tiny resort with a huge beach at 16km.

As for beaches Costa Paradiso has only one main beach with is only walkable to along a donkey track and you need to park your car down at the marina area of this natural park which covers almost 2000 square acres of coastline and hills. There are about 400 properties constructed over this wide area and range from one bedroomed bungalows to fine detached villas that lie behind massive gates.

Best news however is the beach of Cala Sarraina which is found just 7km from Costa Paradiso - as well as being secluded down a narrow country lane there are a host of other tiny beaches we counted 8 which need a bit of effort to find walking over the wild grasses, wild thyme and cranberry bushes

The restaurants

There are three in Costa Paradiso - one the Myra is overlooking the sea - one at the three star hotel down on the marina, and the other is in the centre of the park near the shops and supermarkets. In addition at nearby Isola Rosso (9km from the park gates) are six restaurants, two open till late October. At Trinite d' Agultu some 12km inland there is a restaurant and pizzeria, bank, shops and including" Ammentu" an art shop full of locally made crafts and ceramics. Travel a further 6km and there is a very good restaurant the" Ginestra" a granite farmhouse building which offers very good fayre. After eating here you can tackle the valley of the Moon (Luna Vallee) with its fascinating rocks and boulders around which goats and sheep ramble.
